i am not alone...i happened to stumble upon this piece by Leslie Madsen Brooks, Back to school: conflicted and complicit, about what is happening in the university where she is a consultant. i've always wondered about the quality of the teaching as well as the graduates that we are producing but i thought that that was only a problem on this side of the planet. well, apparently, it is going on in california too. it is all just a factory line... it's about the numbers not the quality.
it seems like almost everyone in this country over the age of 23 is a graduate of something. it really doesn't say anything when you have a bachelor's degree anymore. many are unable to think critically, let alone write coherently to reflect the education that they received. i have always thought that the whole idea of having a bachelor's degree is to tell the world that "hey, i've been trained to think critically and am capable of self directed learning". unfortunately, that is not the case. much is to be desired from the education system here.
